{house tour: my bathroom}

Hello!

Fun fact about me...I started off as an Interior Design major!

{Okay, I was only an Interior Design major for 8 days...but still. It counts.}

I took a course at a university for Interior Design & absolutely adored it. I loved choosing patterns, colors, furniture, figuring out the space plan, where the stairs would go, etc. But after I saw the curriculum at my {first} college, I realized it was going to be an entirely different program. I ended up switching to Advertising, which I love & am very happy with, but I still have a raging passion for all things design.

So...as this is an anything-I-feel-about-blogging type of blog, I'm going to show off some rooms that have great design. If you read this little ol' blog last November, you'll remember I went "house crashing" at my aunt & uncle's modern home. Well, I'm back with some more photos...but this time, my house!

Over the summer, I'll show some of my favorite rooms in my house {well, my mom & stepdad's house} & other homes. & if I remember where things came from, I'll share :) So this week, I'm starting off with my sister & I's bathroom.  Don't worry...it's not as bad as it sounds :)

I only talk about my twin sister Dylan & my half-sister Squig on here, but I also have a step sister. {To protect her privacy, I'll refer to her as M.}  M is only 2 weeks older than us, so for a brief period, we all shared a "suite."  Dylan & M shared a bedroom, which connected to my room by a small hallway. Off of the hallway is a bathroom & large closet. When our parents built & designed our house, they kept three teenage girls in mind :)  Thank goodness.

This shot was taken in my room looking down the mini hallway into Dyl & M's. {Although M has since moved to the guest room/her own room.}  Bathroom is in the opening to the right, closet to the left.

This is a wide angle shot of the bathroom from last year. Some little things have changed since then. Through the door to the right is the toilet & shower.  The color palette is pretty much the same throughout: shades of green, silver, taupe, & light pink.

Let's zoom in to some details...

We just added this little mirror tray to the countertop. I think it's a simple detail that really makes a difference! Before, we would clutter up the counter with accessories, makeup, etc. But now that this has taken over the space, we're forced to put everything back where they're supposed to be stored :)

I also love the little wicker accents in the little storage & tissue box.

Anthropologie knobs = one of my favorite details. LOVE.

This is the artwork that we have above our toilet. Twins! & if you can read the carving, it says, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine." :)  In front of it, we placed a vase of fake flowers. One of the few times where fake flowers do not look tacky. {In my opinion!}

I love our towel rack. Reminds me of a hotel.  Fluffy towels courtesy of Restoration Hardware, one of the best stores ever.

If I ever am ever lucky enough to design my own kitchen, I will use subway tile for the backsplash. I LOVE LOVE subway tile.

So I was very happy to see subway tile in our shower...in a soft green that matches the wall color perfectly.

Our light fixtures: feminine & sweet.

It's no secret that Dylan & I love music. So above our door/window frames, we hung these fun signs:

My favorite part about our bathroom is the floor--shiny glass tile. This is also the floor in our shower, & compliments the green subway tile perfectly.

I'm a bit obsessed.

Here's our Audrey picture in the hallway {my bedroom in the background}.

& that's it! All I need to do is replace those wilting flowers :)

But overall, I love our bathroom. Usually bathrooms are done in relaxing blues or greys, but I find light green very soothing. & the soft, feminine environment is a lovely background while we put on makeup in the morning :)  I have one more project for the space, which I'm hoping to do this month, that I'll definitely blog about! Sneak peek: it includes more Anthropologie knobs.

If you have any specific questions about where things came from, please ask! I can always check with my mom for store/company information.

I hope you enjoyed!  Have a happy weekend!

{100th post & giveaway!}

**This giveaway is now closed**

Raise your hand if you're excited about my 100th post!

{Pretend that's a girl. & then pretend that's me.}

I can't believe I've posted 100 times already!  I blogged on & off for a while, but now I've got my stride :)

So to celebrate this little blogging milestone, I'm going to be giving away one of these:

The Stump Stand is a 3-in-1 stand that provides multiple viewing positions for your tablet - Ramp, Lean and Upright.

The Stump is compatible with:
  • iPhones
  • IPads
  • Androids
  • Kindles
  • Nooks
  • Kindle Fires
  • & more!
The Stump is affordable, portable, low-profile, & the perfect stand to bring anywhere!

It's made of a rubber-like material, so it sticks to every surface, & comes in five fun colors! {green, blue, pink, black, & yellow}.

My favorite feature about it, however, is the opportunity to advertise:

Wouldn't that make a great client or employee gift?! I think so!

It just so happens that my uncle is the creator of the Stump, so a lot of my family members are working on it. However, I would never write or review a product that I don't use & LOVE. I really believe this is one of the best tablet stands out there. With that said...

I'd love for one of my readers to have one!

To enter to win a Stump: comment below & tell me your name!

This giveaway will be open until Sunday night. I will then pick a winner using Random.org.

On an end note....

Thanks to all of my readers out there, {old & new!} for continuing to read!  I love blogging & can't wait to show you what I've got up my sleeve for the summer.

Happy Thursday & comment to win!

{product review: julian's gluten-free pancakes}

**Tomorrow is my 100th post!
So come back & comment for a fun giveaway to celebrate!**

I.love.pancakes.

I was so bummed when I was diagnosed with Celiac, because gluten-free pancakes aren't easy to find. I was thrilled when I found Pamela's gluten-free pancake mix, because they taste like the ones I grew up with :)  But with my schedule, I never have time to make them from scratch. So pancakes are never on my breakfast menu.

Until I found this:

I grumbled too. Frozen pancakes? No thanks.

But since my mom had kindly bought them, & no one else in my family was going to eat them, I gave them a shot.

& guess what? They're SO good! Honestly, they're better than when I make them from scratch. Crazy, right?

Eight pancakes come in each box, with four split into two packages.

I just stack two pancakes on top of each other & stick them in the microwave for 45 seconds.

At the :20 mark, I flip the stack upside down. Voila!

Now comes one of my quirky habits. I grew up on warm syrup. My grandfather always warmed the syrup for his kids, so my mom always did it for us.  I cannot stand when my syrup is cold or room temperature. Honestly, why would you put cold syrup on a hot pancake?  Makes no sense.

We've have this little nifty mini-pitcher {I honestly can't think of a more appropriate term} for years...& it's the perfect thing to use for syrup. I just microwave it for 20 seconds & pour it on the pancakes.

I went a little overboard on the syrup.

Delicious, fluffy, buttermilk pancakes. THAT ARE GLUTEN-FREE.

Julian's Recipe pancakes come in buttermilk, chocolate chip, & blueberry. You can find them at your local grocery store, or here: http://www.juliansrecipe.com/stores/index.php

Have you tried Julian's? What do you think?
Anyone else know of delish gluten-free pancake mixes?

Tell me!

**This is not a sponsored post, nor am I being compensated. Just sharing the love!

{recipe: homemade ice-cream treats}

I cannot take any credit for this recipe. My sister found it online {here} & declared we must attempt to try it. I was totally on board because 1) they looked delicious, 2) it involved ice cream, 3) if all went well, I could blog about it! :)

& it did turn out well! Not only were they amazing, but they were super easy to make.

{Sorry for the wonky coloring in the photos. My kitchen doesn't have the best lightening at night.  All pics look a bit yellow.}

Here's what you need:
  • Ice-cream {any flavor}
  • Cones
  • Chocolate syrup shell {one that "hardens in seconds"}
  • Any topping: sprinkles, crushed nuts, or mini chocolate chips
  • Wax paper

{my weekend}

Weekends just come & go way too fast don't they?

Luckily, the weather was ah.maz.ing. this weekend. Warm, but not humid, sunny, but not scorching. Perfect.

Saturday was pretty boring...filled with lunch with my grandma, running, & editing photos. My sister & I also watched Dodgeball, a movie we hadn't seen in a while {still hilarious, btw}, & making something so delicious your mouth will water. Recipe coming tomorrow...

I went to bed really late that night, so I was VERY happy to sleep in on Sunday morning. I literally have not slept past 8am once in the past three weeks, & I desperately needed the extra hours. I woke up feeling uber refreshed, & so after breakfast, Dylan & I went for a run.

Once we got back, my mom, Dylan, & I looked at each other & said, "Let's go buy something today." So off we went...into the city.  {Dylan & my mom ended up buying something...I didn't, of course lol.}

The rest of the day was filled with:

pretty sunflowers.

lunch with Dyl.

ah-mazing Mexican food.

gluten-free cupcakes.

finding the shirt from Rome I thought I'd misplaced.

chocolate "i wants."

& truths.

How was YOUR weekend?

Happy Monday!

{fashion friday | color bug review}

This week's Fashion Friday is a product review, style tip, & fab find all wrapped up in one post. Get excited.

Remember how I mentioned in this post that I have an obsession with pink streaks? Well, I did it.

My favorite hair products are those by Kevin Murphy, an Australian company known for their professional salon line. I love their shampoos & texture for beachy waves. But I think I love this best of all:

The Color Bug: colored hair shadow. Pink, orange, or purple.

I was SO excited to try this out last week when my mom brought it home for me. She knew I had been eyeing it, & surprised me with one. Love.

In fact, I was so excited that I dropped it on the floor. & when I took the cap off & brought it up to my hair, I realized too late that it had shattered. All the chalk came out & spilled in my hands & on the floor  :(  My sister was not amused when she had to help me clean up the mess. So tip: don't drop it!

I had to order a new one, but once it arrived, it was showtime.

The Color Bug is basically hair chalk that is permanent until you shower. It's very easy to apply...just take a portion of your hair & rub the chalk against it.

{My pony-tail looks super wavy in these photos because it was twirled in a bun all day.}

& to further prove the pink, two less-saturated photos:

{i sent this photo to my mom & she said, "that's blog-worthy." so here it is.}

LOVE!

Like I said in the previous post, hair color is SO.NOT.ME.  99% of the time, I am not a fan. But there's something about a little pop of pink that has me hooked.

What are your thoughts? I sort of want to try the purple...

You can order the Color Bug on Amazon, but the best place is at a hair salon that uses Kevin Murphy products. Once you try his stuff, there's no going back :)

{no outfits this week since I got lazy & didn't capture them}

Happy Weekend!
